The growth (read: birth) of new neurons.
It (neurogenesis) happens all the time inside our brains, especially in the part of our brain (hippocampus) putatively responsible for logging short-term memories into long-term storage, and perhaps also for retrieving those memories.
Incidentally, neuronal apoptosis (programmed cell death) inevitably accompanies neurogenesis. - UrthBound
